This is the second installment in a series devoted to tax settlement strategies and offers in compromise, or OICs, in particular.
As a tax attorney is well aware, a taxpayer’s intent may not have been to avoid paying taxes. For example, an individual may have fallen sick and lacked the capacity to manage his or her financial affairs, including the timely filing of tax returns. That delinquency, although unintentional, may have produced substantial tax debts.
