Is tax fraud a common charge against taxpayers?
Filing a false return can lead to serious trouble. Perhaps the most infamous example is the tax evasion charges that federal authorities brought against Al Capone. However, one-time celebrity and former “Jersey Shore” star Mike Sorrentino provides a recent example.
Both Mike, sometimes referred to as Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, and his older brother have been indicted on criminal tax charges. In fact, one of the charges alleges a tax fraud conspiracy. If convicted, the brothers could face a prison sentence of up to three years and a fine of $250,000. Mike could also face additional penalties if convicted for failing to file the 2011 return.
